Letterkenny and surrounds

Painting and decorating, done the way it should be.

Every quotation sets out the preparation, the materials and the number of coats before any work begins.

Family trade · Fully insured · Written itemised quotations · One contractor, start to finish

The standard

Two painters can quote the same room and mean entirely different things.

The difference is almost never in the finish coat. It is in what happened before it — whether the walls were washed down, whether the filler was primed, whether bare timber was knotted, whether anyone looked at the surface under proper light before calling it done.

None of that is visible when the job is finished. All of it is visible eighteen months later.

Every quotation from McGreal & Co. sets out the preparation surface by surface, the products by name, and the number of coats. If a job needs three coats, the quotation says three coats.

About

I’m David.

McGreal & Co. is my painting and decorating business, working in Letterkenny and the surrounding area.

I learned the trade from my father, who ran a painting company in Canada. Most of what he taught me had nothing to do with brushes — he was insistent about proper light, proper sanding equipment, and washing surfaces down before anything went near them.

McGreal was my grandmother’s maiden name. She was from Mayo, married a carpenter from Monaghan, raised seven children in Canada and lived to a hundred and two.

What we do

What we do

Interior decoration

Ceilings, walls, woodwork and stairwells. Full house repaints, single rooms, and first decoration of newly plastered work.

Exterior painting

Render, masonry, fascia, soffit, windows and doors. Scheduled around conditions rather than the calendar.

Woodwork and joinery

Doors, frames, skirting, stairs and built-in furniture — where the difference between a competent job and a good one is most visible.

How a job runs

How a job runs

  1. 1

    Site visit

Thirty to forty-five minutes, arranged around you, evenings included. Every surface measured and assessed.

  2. 2

    Written quotation

Preparation, products, coats, start and completion dates, and a fixed price. No charge for either.

  3. 3

    The work

Furniture and floors covered before anything begins. The house cleaned at the end of each day, not the end of the job.

  4. 4

    Completion

The finished work walked through together under proper light. Anything not right is put right then.
